As we strive to continually provide for the growing population, we are looking toward the future of our vibrant parish, and as such, we’re evaluating the state of our beloved church.

After a successful Planning Study, and overwhelmingly positive results of a Feasibility Study, we hope to soon begin to repair, restore, and expand our church.

The Church Restoration Fund, through your generous donations, will help with these restoration needs – needs that are more than cosmetic. They are essential to ensure the safety of our community and the long-term viability of our parish. 

BACKGROUND AND PROJECT DETAILS

In 2020, when Fr. Otis served as pastor, a significant infestation of Formosan termites was discovered in various locations on the sanctuary wall. Combined with moisture damage, the deterioration of the wooden framing has left the mosaics at risk of detachment, with cracks appearing in the mosaic and pieces of glass continuing to fall away.

A committee was formed to explore the best way to address this challenge. Rather than attempting a simple mosaic repair, the committee determined that a full restoration of the sanctuary--faithful to the church's original architectural design--would provide the most lasting and meaningful solution,

Upon reviewing the church's 1944 architectural drawings, our architect, Josh Hoffpauir of Hoffpauir Studios, discovered that the original design included a second construction stage featuring a bell tower-- an element that was never realized. Hoffpauir's initial scope of work included completing this vision with the bell tower, a total renovation of the sanctuary, a complete redesign and upgrade of the sacristy, new pews with generous spacing for comfort and accessibility, and multiple ADA-compliant bathrooms to serve our growing community.

The parish had originally planned to launch the capital campaign over a year ago, but the project was postponed due to uncertainty surrounding individual parish financial contributions during the Archdiocese of New Orleans' bankruptcy proceedings. During this time, the parish continued to grow at an extraordinary rate: weekend Mass attendance increased dramatically, making it clear that a simple restoration would not be sufficient to meet the needs of our parish family.

In response, Hoffpauir revisited the plans and developed an expanded design. This vision calls for lengthening and widening the church's transepts, effectively doubling seating capacity, while completing the original intent for the sanctuary and bell tower. These plans aim to accommodate both the growth of our community and the long-term needs of our parish family.
